Development of hang gliding training
Modules, lesson blocks and planning
hang gliding training works
Our training program is all about your development as a pilot – step by step, at your own level, and with the goal of being able to fly independently anywhere in the world with pleasure and confidence.
These are the basic principles of our training:
- The training consists of fixed modules , covering the skills you need to master to obtain your license. These include takeoffs, turns, landings, and equipment knowledge.
- The modules are reviewed regularly so you can practice effectively. They are clearly structured into exercises , and you can repeat a module until you've passed it.
- Our training program has three levels . Each level has the same modules, but with slightly different content, tailored to the pilot's skill level.
- We expect regular participation, dedication, and preparation . You'll also have to do some work at home!
- We offer personal guidance, a clear structure and open communication about your progress and costs.
Learn to fly with the drag start method
You can learn to fly in several ways. At Delta Fly Adventures, you learn to fly using the tow launch method. A light, small motorized aircraft tows the delta up, then you detach at altitude and glide on your own. This is a great launch method in the flat Netherlands, and ideal for learn to fly a tandem hang glider We also offer learn launches, in the dunes, and in the mountains.
The beginner training (DFA1) at Delta Fly Adventures consists primarily of tandem flights using the tow launch method. You'll immediately begin flights with your instructor, gradually taking over more of the controls. You'll also practice flying solo, first on the ground and then with short hops on the practice slope . Once you've completed all the modules, you can begin solo altitude flights : alone under your hang glider, with radio guidance.
In the follow-up course (DFA2), all the skills are reviewed again, but this time you'll practice them with a solo pilot. If that goes well, you'll conclude with the advanced course (DFA3) learn in a variety of conditions and terrains . This includes air towing , winching , and mountain flying .
Content of the courses
When you book a course, you're purchasing a complete learn path. This path consists of a fixed number of lesson blocks (usually weekends), during which we work together to complete all the modules. We also offer special internships, such as winching and mountain flying. These also focus on the modules, but they're organized slightly differently.
This is included in every course:
- A fixed number of lesson blocks with guidance
- Training in the air, on the ground and theory
- Step by step build-up of the exercises
- Personal feedback and structure
- Insight into your progress and where you are in your education
Please note: There are additional costs for flights from Stadskanaal Airport. These are not included in the course fee. They are listed in the course information on the website.
Number of lesson blocks and flights
The number of lesson blocks is usually enough to complete a course. During the lesson blocks, you'll fly as much as possible. You'll also need a certain number flights for each course. More details can be found in the course information on the website.
- DFA1 = 5 lesson blocks and approximately 20 tandem flights + practice slope
- DFA2 = 5 lesson blocks and approximately 20 stolo flights
- DFA3 = 3 lesson blocks with approximately 10 solo flights
Learn at your own pace
You'll have the time to really learn things. We'll invest in your development together, and we can adjust the pace. If you Learn faster than average, you might have a block of lessons left over. You can carry that over to the next course. If you need more time, or want to practice a specific module again, you can book an additional block of lessons.
International patents
Once you've completed the training, you can apply for your license from the Royal Dutch Aviation Association (KNVvL ). This is the governing body for air sports in the Netherlands. More information about the licenses can be found on our training levels page .
Scheduling the lessons
You'll agree on the dates of your lesson blocks when you book your course. Make sure there's not too much time between your lesson blocks: Regular attendance is essential for learn to fly. Therefore, the courses have a limited validity period. DFA1 and DFA2 must be completed within 12 months, and DFA3 within 8 months.
Sign in and out
At the start of your course, you'll schedule all the lesson blocks. Once you've received confirmation from Delta Fly Adventures, your dates are set. If you can't make it, simply cancel in time and schedule another lesson block immediately. We'll notify you of available lesson blocks via the online calendar and the Signal app group.
Can you only make part of a lesson, can't make it on time, or need to leave early? Please consult your instructor beforehand, as this will impact the program for the entire group.
What do we do in bad weather ?
We only fly in safe weather conditions appropriate for your skill level. If we can't fly due to the weather, we'll do exercises on the ground. A lesson block will therefore continue even if we can't fly every day.
If bad weather is expected for an entire weekend, we can postpone the weekend until learn . We will notify you two days in advance. If we have to postpone the weekend until learn , your lesson block will be moved to a different date. You are then responsible for scheduling an additional weekend.
