DFA0 - Introduction course hang gliding
First introduction: tandem flights with instructor
The introductory course is a great introduction to the sport. You'll make two tandem flights with an instructor, experiencing the magic of gliding and gaining a glimpse into what learn to fly involves. After practical exercises on the ground and a safety briefing, you can take to the skies and start piloting right away.
DFA0 Introduction Course is the ideal start for when you want to know how hang gliding is, before you register and register for the complete training.
DFA1 - Beginners course hang gliding
Beginners: Tandem lessons and practice slope up to your first solo flight
The beginners course is for people without flying experience and for whom the introduction course has done. It consists of 2 parts:
- DFA1 Air Towing
- Dfa1 practice slope
At DFA1 Air Towing you learn to fly a tandem glider with an experienced instructor at your side. flights are conducted in the Netherlands, not from a mountain, but behind a tow plane. This tows the tandem glider into the air, where you release it at altitude to glide gently down. With each flight, you'll gradually increase your own control until you're comfortable with the hang glider from takeoff to landing. At DFA1 Practice Slope, you'll also learn to take off and land with a solo glider. Once you've mastered both, it's time for your first solo flight!
DFA1 Air Towing consists of 20 tandem flights , while DFA1 Practice Slope consists of 4 days of instruction on the practice slope. DFA1 includes ground exercises with a solo pilot, simulator training, and theory lessons. With DFA1 Air Towing and DFA1 Practice Slope, you easily meet the requirements for Brevet 1 from the KNVvL.
DFA2 -Follow -up course hang gliding
Experienced beginner: Solo flying under radio guidance
The advanced air towing course is the next step toward obtaining Brevet 2, the internationally recognized license that allows you to fly independently. You learn to fly solo under radio guidance, become comfortable in the air, and learn more about equipment, regulations, meteorology, and flight technique. You'll also learn to take off and land independently, on your feet.
The advanced air towing course consists of 20 solo tow starts, including guidance, theory, and ground exercises. After this course, you can choose from several specializations to complete your certification.
DFA3 - Advanced course in air towing , winching, mountain flying
Light advanced: Thermal flies and various starting methods
The final step toward your license! In DFA3, you can choose from various launch methods: air towing , winching, mountain flying, and soaring. You'll perfect your self-knowledge and ability to interpret weather conditions in diverse terrain, independently create flight plans, check and repair your equipment, and virtually no longer need radio guidance. Even when flying in bumpy air, turbulent conditions, or thermals. We'll also help you with thermal flying, which helps you stay airborne longer. While this isn't a requirement for the license, it is, of course, the most rewarding aspect of the sport!
You get the license 2 with one or more internships at DFA3 level:
- DFA3 Air Towing : 10 tow starts to complete the tow rating
- DFA3 Winches: 4 days of winching for the winch rating
- DFA3 Mountain Flying: various courses for the mountain rating
- DFA3 Soaring: individual lesson days for the soar rating
DFA4 - XC flying and rating and

Ippi-Card World Air Federation
The KNVVL certificates are valid internationally. If you are going to fly outside the Netherlands, it is wise to request the IPPI card of the FAI (World Air Federation). That is a proof of equivalence of your license to an international standard. There is an ippi card for every level, and you request it via the KNVVL.
