Busy start of the Lierse season

The first Lierstage of the season is on it, and what for one! With more than 60 starts in just a few days, we were able to practice, learn and enjoy. The group was nice and varied: from curious newcomers to re -entrants who put their fly harness again after years. The wind was firmly present - not ideal for relaxed flights, but perfect for learning a lot about safety, timing and good landing layouts.

Back to Basics: Safe leather winches

On day one we started at the basics. Theory and practice alternated with a lot of attention for the starting routine, safety and communication. Because you never do winches alone. The interplay between pilot, starting officer and Lierman is essential. That is why everyone not only learns to fly, but also how you are a good starting officer. In this way we build together on a flying community in which everyone literally helps each other.

Winters on the long track

After the first short flights it was time for the real thing: the long track. With the wind in the back (or rather: against the nose) we reached beautiful heights. But that also requires precision when landing. One pilot even made a foreign time a bit too far driven a recognizable beginner's error in strong wind. Fortunately it all belonged to the learning process, and it was discussed with humor and learning points during the Dinner at Riet of the B&B that had cooked a delicious meal for us.

Progress at every level

The next day we were back on the field early. Hang check, RadioCheck ... Cable tight ... Attention, Start! The technique of starting with a winch requires concentration and finesse: right walking direction, good posture, only taking off if you have sufficient speed. And then, at height, some even ended up in thermal! Without varios, pure by feeling and that worked.

Learning together = learning faster

What made this internship extra valuable was the collaboration between the participants. In pairs we worked on start and landing technology, using videos, feedback and each other's observations. The starting pilots also learned how the system works on the Lierzijde. Re -entrants made the switch to their own wings or new harnesses, and there was plenty of experimentation with equipment. The flights were short, but intensive and educational.

From windless to wind force 4: Flying in all circumstances

On the last day we were ready at 6 am, with a magical sunrise with cranes and dew on the field. The first starts without wind asked to go through firmly, but that was another valuable addition to the lessons in strong winds. Around noon the wind attracted considerably, and we decided to stop safely at wind flies of 30 km/h.

Evaluation: learned a lot, even more looking forward to more

The final round brought many laughing moments (as that student did his helmet only after the starting procedure), but above all: enthusiasm. Everyone had made progress, regardless of the level, and want to continue. Because Lieren is more than a starting method It is a joint experience, technically challenging and just very fun.

Learning to learn winches too?

Would you like to learn to learn winches? In a few days you learn to start safely and land on De Lier. You can participate if you can already fly solo and land on your feet. If you already have B2 or B3, the clinic is ideal for receiving your winch notification.
